  1. Long ago, the people used to gather on Streetlane for the bonfire. The young people would gather the sticks and turf. It was a custom long ago to milk the cows and have bread and milk for their supper. When the people used to be going home they would bring a few quenched coals with them and every potato field they passed they would throw a coal into it and by doing this it was supposed to keep the blight from the potatoes.
