  1. When the people of my district would have lea potatoes they would first turn a sod with a lay. They would put out the manure with an ass and pardógs, and sometimes they would carry it out themselves. They used to tease the manure with their hands so that it would be well spread. Then they would turn another sod, and the ridge was ready to be heartfilled. They heartfilled the ridge with clay from the furrow with the lay also. They would not have much lea potatoes as they sowed oats in the lea, it was usually second crop potatoes they grew. They would dig up the
