  1. On the banks of the River Shannon in Aughery there is an old ruin. It's remains though dilapidated still it looks stately. Once there lived a very bigoted protestant there named Nesbith. It was at the time when protestants had several unfair advantages over Catholics (prisoners). There were twenty Catholic prisoners in jail. It was supposed that one should be hung and ninteen released. It happened that Nesbith was the man to whom this job was given. Instead of killing one he killed ninteen
