  1. The Battle Field of Ballinamuck.
General Humbert, a French Officer, fought against Lord Cornwallis at Ballinamuck in 1798.
Humbert marched through east of Gortletteragh and Cornwallis by the P. Church to intercept him.
A rebel was hidden under a haycock by a man in the townland of Drumhirk, convenient to Gortletteragh Chapel, and he escaped. The soldiers happened to search every haycock in the field except the one he was under.
Another rebel was hanged at the top of Lakefield Hill and the tree on which he was hanged is called Hangman's Tree.
General Humbert arrived at Cloone late in the evening. A family named West had a me--il[?] at a hayrick that day. A bullock was brought in and killed and roasted on an iron gate which was taken off the graveyard.
The French Officers got poteen and were supposed to have taken too much.
