  1. When a person dies in a house, a “wake” is generally held for a couple of nights, to which all the neighbours and relations go.
    Pipes and tobacco are handed round and everyone is expected to smoke.
    Refreshment is also given several times in the night.
    Candles are lit in the room where the corpse lies.
