  1. In olden times when priests were strictly prohibited to say mass they stole out at day-break and celebrated mass on the top of a high hill or in some remote place.
    There is a high hill called the "Monument" convinient to our school and it said that mass was celebrated frequently on its summit.
    Word would be sent round at the dead of night and the poor catholics would hear mass at day-break.
    The priest dressed in plain clothes and worked as an ordinary man around the place. It is said the nails which held up the cross and mass cards for mass service are still to be seen in the white thorn stumps.
