    Burning lime in kilns
Lime is usually got in a hill and the kilns are usually built beside the lime pit. A fire is lit under the kiln and the lime stone is put in the kiln over the furnace and there it is burned. Before lime was put into the kiln it was in big hard lumps like a stone. A row of coal is made and a row of lime and a row of coal on the top. Then the coal is set lighting and it takes a few days to burn.
