  1. Long ago there were no schools but learned men went about the country. These men came to the houses of the better people and gave lessons to the children who attended.
    Some of these children were able to pay him. Others were not, but he taught them all the same.
    In the village of Jamestown there lived a man named Mr Norton who taught the children long ago and he was very kind to the children. He stayed at a business house in Jamestown, before moving on to some other locality.
