  1. Long ago there was no such a thing as electricity, even parafin lamps were scarce.
    The people read with the light of the fire and with candles they made from rushes.
    They would gather a bunch of green rushes in the field, bring them in peel about 3/4 of them, and dry them to the fire
    When this was done, they dipped them in boiling fat, and after some time they were fit for use.
