    One night a man named James Gallagher of Gortnagullion was sitting up with a cow calving, he heard a whistle from Drumgowna fort, and another from Sam Taylor's fort, and he heard another from Gortanure hill. Any of the whistles he thought could be heard all over Ireland.

  2. Forts
    There is a fort in Scardawn. It is situated in James Ward's hill, and there is a good view from it. It is about one hundred and eight yards round about, and its width is about twenty eight yards. It is surrounded with bushes, and there is a circle of earth inside. there is a hollow in the middle of it also.
