    It is lucky for a man to go out the back door. Then round the house and as he enters the front door to wish all in the house "A Happy New Year."
    If a person cries on New Year's day he will cry every day that year.
    If you are late for Mass on New Year's you will be late every time you go to Mass that year.
    If a person borrows on New Year's day he will be borrowing for the whole year.
    It is lucky to get money on New Year's day and unlucky to give it out.
