    We make crosses out of rushes and we hang them in the cow-houses and in the kitchen.
    Whit.
    No-one should go on the water on Whit Sunday; boating fishing or swimming.
    New Year's Day.
    It is counted unlucky for a woman to be the first to come into the house. Don't give anything away on New Year's day.
    Hansel Monday.
    The first Monday in the New Year. On no account, spend any money. If you buy anything don't pay for it that day. It is very lucky if anyone gives you anything or lends you anything or pays you for anything. Some people go for the loan of things on that day -
