When Stanley the great explorer went on one of his trips to Africa, he took a man from Drumsna, named Doctor Parke with him.
While he was on this trip, he was bitten in the back by a snake. but Doctor Parke, at great risk to his own life, sucked the poison out and saved him.
When Doctor Parke died his body was brought to Drumsna and he was buried in the old meeting house, where his headstone is still to be seen.
