    Pampooties: were worn in early times instead of shoes...

    Pampooties: were worn in early times instead of shoes. These were made from the skins of animals, usually the skins of goats. They were made very roughly but were warm. These are worn in the Aran Islands to the present day.
    Skins: Accounts are given of the use of animal skins as a protection for the feet when travelling. This was usually a large strip of skin which was spread on the ground to be walked upon and put on in front with the hand to the journey's end. But as people got more advanced they began to tie pieces of skin to their feet, thus, saving them the trouble of removing it from
