  1. On the banks of the Shannon adjoining St. George's Terrace are the remains of an old gaol, the gallows of which is still to be seen, and the drawings associated with the prisoners are still on the walls. On one wall the Gloria in Excelsis Deo is done in coloured lettering.
    My father remembers hearing that the corpses of the men who were killed at Ballinamore were brought to Carrick-on-Shannon and photographed outside the gaol. Mr. Rogan Clerk of the Court at present occupies the "Governor's House."
