    This happened years ago. A man from this village was going one morning early to his work...

    "This happened years ago. A man from this village was going one morning early to his work when he saw a great fight going on between a weasel* and a big rat. He stood watching for a long time and he saw that the rat was getting the upper-hand of the weasel. Like everybody else this man had a great regard for the "Beanín Uasal" and he didn't like to see her getting killed. So he went up to where the pair was fighting and left his boot down on the rat to give the weasel a chance. Right enough the weasel killed the rat but before he was killed the rat managed to take a bite of the man's shin bone.
    The following morning the man's leg was so swollen that he could not walk. After another day the man
