  1. Once there lived a man whose wife died. He lived near the seashore and every morning he went for a bathe. He often heard tell of the mermaid who was seen sitting on a rock combing her hair with her cap off. He knew that if the cap was stolen the spell was broken and she would be a real woman again. So he stole behind her and stole her cap. She looked behidn her and when she saw him with the cap she followed him and held after him into the house.
