About a mile from Lixnaw is a fort situated in Maurice Shanahan's land. This fort like the others in the neighbourhood is round in shape and has an earthen ditch surmounted by blackthorn and whitethorn bushes.

Maurice Shanahan had two sons had to pass the fort on his way to school. One evening as he was returning a tall, brown-haired woman came out of the fort and brought him in and got him to sit down. She kept him there for about an hour and then told him to go home. When he arrived his mother asked what kept him so long. He
