  1. A family in Ballyheighue kept a mermaid in the house for seven years. When anybody died in the house, the corpse was taken and laid on the verge of the sea, when the people of the house came next morning it was taken. On one occasion they watched who used take the corpse, but it was not taken atall. They had to take the corpse and bury it.
