If you have 2 cows you need to churn twice a week during summer and once a week during the winter. The old proverb was, any stranger that would come in should put his hand on the churn to prevent the person from bringing the luck of the butter out of the house. The old people had so much faith in this that if the stranger would not put his hand on the churn the people would make you do it. Cakes are made by the buttermilk some people drink it and the suplers supply that's left is given to pigs.
