  1. On St. {Bridig} Bridgid's night a cross is made in every house with straw and two small sticks. First the sticks are nailed togeter in the shape of a cross and the straw is plaited on to the sticks. Then it is put up behind a rafter. At Christmas every house is decorated with holly and ivy. This is burned after three weeks. On the 12th night twelve candles are lit in the houses and in some houses rushes are lit. First they are peeled and dipped in gravy. Then a sod of turf is got and the rushes are stuck in it.
