  1. There was once a man living in the village of Polnabrone. His father sent him to Mount Bellew to pay the rates. When he reached Mount Bellew he met a friend and they both went into a Public House and drank the money he got to pay the rates. When he went home his father would not let him in because he had not the rates paid and he had the money spent. When his father would not let him in he made up his mind to go to England. He did not know the direct road to Dublin so he went south-ward and he went to a small town
