    Nearly every boy and girl in my school - district makes his own toys when they have time to spare. The girls make dolls with scraps of coloured cloth and a bit of timber for the dolls head.
    Boys make tops from empty thread-spools by pointing a thin stick to put through the hole, and then verging the sides with an edged knife. Then a long cord is wound round it and is let go. In Spring usually tops are spun.
    In the Winter "cribs" are used by boys to trap birds. The cribs are made from elders. When well pared they are put one upon the other and tied firmly so as to prevent all means of escape. This is a
