    All the houses except two have a slated roof the other two being thatched.
    The word Knockmeal means the "bald" hill, so called because it is very bare, very little trees or grass growing on it.
    There were more houses in the townland in pre-famine days because during the famine a few people died and others emigrated to America. The land is very hilly and boggy in this district
