  1. In the townland of Kilcara there lived a very poor man named Michael Heffernan, and his wife and two children. The house was so small being only a one roomed building, that the bed was not far away from the fireplace.
    One morning the husband went out to collect firewood, and he closed the door from the outside leaving the others in bed and expecting not to be long away.
