The front of their chimneys was made of wattles and clay and other mixtures. Other chimneys were made of rushes and these were bound with turgs but these didnt last long at all because when a storm would come it would know them. All the floors were made of mud and some of them now are made of mud also but the most of them now are made of cement or flags and they are much better. Half-doors were very common in olden times and there are some half doors in the country yet and they are very useful for keeping out fowl.
