Wooden pecks and mugs
Pecks and other wooden drinking vessels were much in use.
The pecks were shallow wooden vessels in which milk was set. The cream was skimmed off by means of a wooden skimmer.
Wooden mugs were made from "sycamore wood". They were hewn from small blocks of wood, the interior of which was scooped out. These mugs were of different sizes, one size called "a piggin" contained a pint.
A larger size called a Noggin was used for measuring butter. A certain number of noggins filled a firkin.
