The old people tell about a great hero that lived in this district named Shone Byrnes. He lived in the townland of Coolanelig in the farm that the present Byrnes family own. He was famous for his strength and many amusing tales are told about him.
One day he went into a forge and the smith was facing the fire reddning irons. Shone carried off the anvil on his shoulder. When the smith looked around the anvil was gone. Well said he Shone Byrnes must be here because no man in Ireland but Shone could lift that anvil.
2. Shone and his brother putting their strength against each other. One day Shone and his brother went to the bog drawing out turf. The passage was bad and the horse
