    In the month of October contented and sober I sat by the fire of a cold rainy day.

    Away then he started both gay and lighthearted,
    Thinking he would earn some money that day,
    But he was mistaken, he was shamefully beaten.
    Five cards with the Master, he was not able to play.
    I thought then, no more of the tinker until midnight
    When I heard a loud rap at the door once again
    I asked who was that and he said "I'm the tinker"
    I am out in the cold no shade from the rain.
    O murder he cried I am shaking and shivering,
    If you do not let me in I will be torn by the dog.
