  1. The village of Knockanure is situated on a hill. In the olden days it consisted of nineteen thatched houses, two of those were Public houses, Enright's and Mulvihill's. In those days in the village there were a good many tradesmen one time, a cooper, a weaver, a blacksmith, a tailor, a shoemaker and a dressmaker. It was a peaceful little village and the people worked very hard for very small wages. It also had a school house and a Chapel in olden days, it was a thatched Chapel and the school thatched also. The people of the parish had to thatch them in turn. Some of the old houses are gone and slate ones are built in their places. There are only thirteen houses there now.
