    The old people say that if you don't put up the May Pole the fairies would take the milk from the cows. It is not right to give away milk on May day
    Some people tie a May Pole or a red rag on to a cows tail, for fear the fairies would take the milk from them. If a child is born on May Day it is supposed to be gone with the fairies.

    Some days of the week are said to be luckier that the others. It is alway said that Wednesday is the luckiest day of the week to get married and Friday the most unlucky. May marriages are very unlucky, because "Married in May you'll rue the day."
    It is unlucky to take up a job or to go into a new house on Monday. Friday is
