  1. Before National schools were established in Ireland there were schools known as hedge schools.
    They were generally held in farmers' houses, where there were children. In fine weather classes were held in the open in the sheltered fields hence the name "hedge-schools".
    There are some of the old people in this village who remember those schools and the teachers who taught in them. The names of the following teachers are mentioned as having taught in this locality:-
