  1. In some parts of the country the Irish people wold not give away a drink of water on May day or they would not sweep the house or throw out dirty water on that night for fear they would wet the fairies if they were coming into the house.
    If you entered a house where people would be churning they would not let you out without leaving your hand on the churn for fear you would take the butter from the cows.
