  1. The people had a great many customs for certain days such as "May Day", 24th June, or St. John's Day and November's night. On May Day they would not put out the ashes that day or they would be putting good luck out of the house for the year. In the morning they would not put out the fire until they saw smoke coming out of the chimney of another's house.
