- (continued from previous page)When they had a good look at him, they noticed he had clover feet. It was supposed to be the devil. This put an end to the gambling in this house.
- Thos Hegarty's great grand father was a shoemaker. The boys in family used to help their father and the girls used put a binding overhead in the slippers to make them look tidy. People used to call here for new shoes and to have old ones repaired. Low shoes were mostly made.There was a road leading from the bog on by the house and a fort about 100 yards below the house. There were some men waiting for shoes. It was late on a Saturday night and my mother (RIP) was ironing at the kitchen table. One of the men in the room made enquiries to my mother as to how the night was or if it were raining. Now this was after 12 o'clock. She went to the door, slipped outside and heard the cry of a child coming up the old road in the direction of the house. She gave the alarm to those in the room and they all ran and made for the door. They saw a child, fly like(continues on next page)
