He said it was a lever, he bought in Manchester town
He cessed all the navvies a shilling to leave down
The navvies all assembled and each man now he did say
It was not fair they all declared to lose their half a day
Come all ye brave Shannon men, that hear of my song
I don't care a farthing now where ye come from
Here's long life to McTiernan and all his young men
And three cheers for Mr Crawford and nine for Mr Quinn.
This song was composed by William Doyle who lived at the Canal Bridge Drumshanbo.
It was composed at the time the new Shannon was being made.
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
