One day a soldier went into a house on Sliabh an Iarainn for a drink of milk. The woman of the house was pounding potatoes and she did not pretend to see him. He began to break everything in the house with his sword. He asked the woman again for the drink and she gave it to him. When he had the cup up to his mouth she took the pounder or beetle and hit him on the head and killed him. This was a woman that lived on Sliabh an Iarainn.
About three years ago two skeletons were found near Ballintra Bridge and a man named Barney Mc Hugh who was working on the Shannon found a sword and when some of the men were dredging they found a sword and a canoe.
