Before starting on his journey the father had locked the three children in the cabin and there they remained for two days. A neighbour seeing no movement about the house decided to go in.
On entering the cabin he found two of the children dead and the other child who was three years dying. This kind neighbour took the child to his own house where he reared it.
This child grew up very strong and was always known in this district as "Kitty Charlie" Kitty maintained that the famine came because of the evil doings of the people and that it would not be long again till there would be another famine. Kitty died about eleven years ago.
