    The above is a drawing of an iron slab 22" high and 2ft wide which was formerly embedded in the wall of a cottage about two miles from Drumshanbo. It is the only specimen left of the iron smelting carried on in former times on the Furnace Hill a small height outside Drumshanbo.
    On this slab are the letters O O R meaning Owen O' Rourke also the figures 1688 representing the year. The slab is
