  1. When the "No Rent" manifesto was issued in '81, the landlords combined and did their best to extract the rent. On the gale days the "No Rent" manifesto was placarded at the principal cross-roads. It was termed the "Pooka." When the slave-minded tenants came so far they saw but knew no more and, through fear, returned home. Next, came a shower of processes. Decrees were obtained and evictions followed. One or two unfortunate tenants were selected on each estate for the purpose of terrorising the others.
    The first evictions were carried out on the Baker estate in '83. The evicted tenants were James Loughlin and Mrs Ellen Loughlin of Derinahona. The Creamer brothers namely John, and Thomas, and Stephen Mc Gourty of Greaghnafarna were evicted. After 18 months, the Loughlins surrendered and came to terms with the landlord. But, the Creamers and Mc Gourty never were restored till
