    About one hundred years ago (perhaps longer) trees grew along the shore of Lake Allen.

    About one hundred years ago (perhaps longer) trees grew along the shore of Lake Allen. The mada crainn could go on trees from Eden (townland) to Fahey (townland), parish of Ballinaglera. There are no trees now.
    Reason why the tees were cut:
    There was a furnace in Druminalass (townland), parish of Ballinaglera. Iron from Sliabh an Iarainn was smelted there with charcoal. The remains of charcoal can be seen on Druminalass hill to this day.
