    Straw Mats.
    Get about twelve sheaves of good long straw and clean it well. Take half fist fulls and put heads and ends together. Make twelve such. Make a straw rope about 3 ft long. Double it and put in the locks of straw about six inches apart. Plait the locks until you have one side finished. Do the same with the other side. When you have the two sides finished plait the two together with a straw rope.

  2. A ciseán is made from straw. It is used for hens to lay in. This is the way to make it. Make a rope from straw. Double it, and make it into the form of a circle. Plait it like a mat. Knot about thirty small locks on to the straw rope, leaving each of them about an inch apart. Leave six or seven ins for a door. Plait round until you come to the door and turn back when you come to it. Continue until you finish
