- In the townland of Garvagh, Parish of Killinummery, Co. Leitrim, there once lived a man, named John Kilkenney, who could get no butter from the milk of his cows, as it was taken away by a neighbouring woman named Sarah McGinley, who took the butter for a period of three months each year. At last something took place and Kilkenny got butter from his cows milk afterwards. One evening a man came to Kilkenny's house, and he was dressed in a priest's clothes, and he asked for a drink. The woman of the house said it was a poor drink she had for him, as something had happened to their milk. She then gave him the drink which seemed to be a no better than milk and water. He took it, and looked at it, and handed it back to her again. He then asked if she could keep him for the night, so the woman said she had no bed for him, and he said a few shaves of straw would do him in the corned. He then told her when she would be milking the cows in the morning to milk three streams from each cow and bring it to him, in a cup. The woman did so. She gave the man the cup.
