  1. Nicholas McCarthy was the name of a poet I know. He lived in Drumkeenan he spent his time wandering from town to town and made a living singing songs and ballads many of them if not all were made by himself. The following is one made by him about a land league meeting held in the town of Drumkeenan 6 miles from this place.
    Song I
    Attend you gallant Leitrim men to those verses hear penned down. Concerning that great meeting held in Drumkeenan town. It was a great and grand display there was full ten thousand there and new Dr. Maguire he presided in the chair.
    II
    And the town were represented with of that I'll tell you soon.
    They came there from [?] - on. Shannon with Mohill too and Cloone.
    With Drumona too and Jamestown that is always to the fore.
    And likewise Brave O'Burne with the town of Ballinamore.
    III
    There was brave James Ms Morrow from the town of Drumshanbo.
    Drumneilly to Kiltibrid and Leitrim town also.
