the type required regulated the type of rod used. Lights shopping baskets are made from light rods. Turf baskets and those required for heavier work are made from storage rods. A hoop or top piece was made for the baskets from a strong rod. The other rods were peeled and left to season. They were then interwoven from a centre piece in the bottom and bound around the loop. These baskets were then dyed by the methods shown on page 54.
