My father farm consists of about twenty fields, each having a name.
Most of the names have no historic value whatever - the Calves Field, the Three-Cornered Field, the Paddock, the Small Field, the Coarse Meadows, etc. - each getting its name from the shape, size or use to which it is put.
"The Shaeihín" (as it is pronounced) is a very common name on fields in this locality - obviously connected with the Irish 'sruthán' which passes near or through them.
Jim's Field derives its name from one Jim McDermott who owned it at some period.
