  1. An old custom in this district is on Saint Stephen's night, a crowd of boys gather together, and dress up with hats made from straw, and false-faces, and old coats turned inside out. They are called Wren-Boys, Mummers, or Straw-Boys.
They go round the houses, and dance, and sing, and play a French Fiddle. They sing, "Come along now boys, hurry up now boys," give us something to help us along with the new year.
Nearly everybody gives them money. They save it all up and have a dance.
