    Martin Rooney used to walk to Sligo and back the same day when he was a young man that was about 14 miles each way. He used to bring butter to Sligo to sell it. When he got outside Manorhamilton he took off his shoes and socks and walked barefooted till he came near Sligo. He put on the boots then and coming back took them off again and walked barefooted home.
