  1. Long ago there lived a man in Ballagmeehan who had a fort on his land. This fort was surrounded by trees. One very severe Winter the man had bad turf, so he said to himself he would cut down those trees for fuel. All went well until he had the last of them out. Next morning he found two calves dead. Soon after a cow died and everything seemed to fail with him. He fell into bad health, and he was changed from a prosperous farmer into a poor man.
