  1. Potatoes are grown on our farm. The men prepare the ground for the crop. First of all they draw manure to the place where the crop is to be put.
    Than they spread it and drop the seed. After that they dig the sods along the sides of the ridges and throw them up on the manure. They do this work with a spade. Spades are not made locally. In the summer the potato crop has to be sprayed with washing-soda and blue-stone. The potato crop is dug in the month of October. The are first put in heaps in the fields and the are put in a barn. Starch is sometimes made from potatoes. This is made by grating the potatoes and
